Bas Smit has a diverse work experience in the marketing and sales industry. Bas started their career at Unilever in 1997, where they held various roles including Sales Director and Brand Development Director. Bas'sresponsibilities included leading different teams in finance, customer development, and account management. In 2014, they joined Barry Callebaut Group as Vice President Marketing EMEA and Head of Sustainability Marketing. Bas later became the CMO and Global Vice President of Marketing before assuming their current position as Chief Marketing & Innovation Officer.

Bas Smit earned a Master of Science degree in Operational Research and Statistics from Eindhoven University of Technology, where they attended from 1991 to 1997. In 1996, they also briefly studied at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and achieved a Master of Science degree in Mathematics, Information Technology, and Econometrics. Later, in 2009 to 2010, they pursued a Post Doc degree in Brand Management at the University of Groningen.
