David Birdsell

Marxe Dean, School of Public Affairs & Special Assistant to the President for Institutional Effectiveness at Baruch College

David Birdsell is the current Marxe Dean of the School of Public Affairs and Special Assistant to the President for Institutional Effectiveness at Baruch College. Prior to their current role, Birdsell served as President of the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration from October 2016 to October 2017. In this role, they were responsible for setting the global standard in public service education.

Birdsell has also served as Dean of Baruch College's Austin W. Marxe School of Public and International Affairs from January 1999 to August 2021. In this role, they provided executive leadership for one of the nation's largest and most dynamic schools of public administration and public policy.

In addition to their work in academia, Birdsell has also served as Board Member for the New York Council of Nonprofits and Executive Director of Academic Programs for the Baruch College School of Public Affairs. David has also been an Associate Professor in the Baruch College Department of Communication Studies.

David Birdsell has a Ph.D. in Public Communication from the University of Maryland, an MA in Speech Communication from the University of Virginia, and a BA in Theirtory from the University of Virginia.

They work with Aldemaro Romero Jr. - Dean, Weissman School of Arts and Sciences, Arthur Downing - Vice President for Information Services and Dean of the Library, and Mary Gorman - Vice President for Enrollment Management and Strategic Academic Initiatives. David Birdsell reports to Mitchel B. Wallerstein, President.
