Mark Avery has over 20 years of work experience. In 1996, they began their career as a Marine in the United States Marine Corps. From 2002 to 2007, they worked as a Hazard Prediction and GIS Modeler for Camber Corporation. In 2006, they became a GIS and Hazard Modeling Trainer for L-3 Communications. From 2007 to 2008, they worked as an Emergency Management, Force Protection, and Mitigation Analyst for Systems Plus. From 2009 to 2012, they were a Graduate Student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where they studied Urban Geography, Introductory GIS, Cartography I, Cartography II, Advanced GIS, GIS for Community and Regional Planning, Statistics, Geo-demographics, and Urban Planning Methods. From 2012 to 2019, they were a Technical Writer, Senior Staff at Fiserv, where they were responsible for writing technical documentation for multiple products. Since 2019, they have been a QA Engineer - Technical Writer - GIS Analyst at Beehive Industries.

Mark Avery obtained a Bachelor of General Studies in History from The University of Kansas between 1996 and 2001. Mark then went on to receive a Master of Arts in Geography - GIS and Cartography from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln between 2009 and 2011. In 2018, they earned a MadCap Advanced Developer - Flare Expert certification from MadCap Software, Inc.
