Kelly Smits

Kelly Smits is an Education and Environment Reporter at Belleville News-Democrat since July 2023. In the past, Kelly has worked as a News Intern at PolitiFact Wisconsin and as a Reporting Intern at Green Bay Press-Gazette. Kelly also has experience as a Journalism and Media Program Associate at Stanley Center for Peace and Security, and as a Communications, Media, and Marketing Intern at Arms Control Association. Kelly has a background in journalism and international affairs with degrees from Sciences Po and American University School of International Service. Throughout their career, Kelly has demonstrated a passion for reporting and fact-checking, particularly in areas related to environmental issues and peace and security.
