Colin Gislason

Colin Gislason has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. Colin is currently working at Bench Accounting as a Principal Software Engineer, a position they have held since July 2023. Prior to this, they held the role of Staff Software Engineer at Bench Accounting from July 2021 to July 2023.

Before joining Bench Accounting, Colin worked at Robots and Pencils where they held multiple roles. Colin started as a Senior Robot & Technical Lead in March 2015 and stayed with the company until July 2020. In this role, they were involved in various responsibilities such as screening interview candidates, supporting the sales team, and leading a team at Macmillan Learning. Colin then transitioned to the role of Principal Robot from July 2020 to July 2021, where they led a team working on a FinTech startup project. Lastly, they served as an Associate Web Practice Lead from March 2021 to July 2021, where they worked with other practice leads to establish goals and ensure the growth and morale of web developers.

Before their time at Robots and Pencils, Colin worked at Protegra as a Software Developer from July 2014 to March 2015. Here, they developed web-based enterprise applications for clients across various industries using Java ecosystem technologies such as Spring, Play, Maven, and Gradle.

Colin also has experience as a Mentor at Africa Inland Mission International, where they spent a year in Uganda mentoring university students and teaching computer science and engineering concepts. Additionally, they worked independently as an iPhone Developer from September 2008 to April 2013.

Their earliest work experience dates back to the Public Health Agency of Canada, specifically the CNPHI. Here, they worked as a Software Developer, building and maintaining web applications for disease surveillance, intelligence exchange, and research. Colin initiated cross-domain initiatives and introduced AJAX for a better user experience.

Colin Gislason obtained a Bachelor of Computer Science from the University of Manitoba, completing their studies from 2001 to 2005. In April 2019, they also obtained a Slack Developer Certification from Slack.
