Adam Surak

Adam Surak has a diverse range of work experience. Most recently, they served as the Head of Platform at BeReal. starting in April 2023. Prior to that, Adam was an Angel Investor starting in July 2020. Adam also worked as a Mentor at Plato from January 2020 onwards.

Adam's longest tenure was at Algolia, where they held several roles. From July 2021 to February 2023, they were the VP Engineering, Infrastructure and Security, responsible for building and scaling an autonomous organization of over 50 engineers and managers across various teams. Prior to this, they were the Senior Director of Engineering, Infrastructure & Security, focusing on sustainably scaling infrastructure, security, and teams. Adam achieved significant milestones during their tenure, including supporting 100x ARR growth, scaling infrastructure to handle 1.5 trillion search queries per year, and establishing robust security and compliance processes.

Before their time at Algolia, Adam was a Teaching Assistant and Research Assistant at Tampere University of Technology. Adam also founded Creontech s.r.o., where they served as the Founder & CTO of Pikr, a startup focused on a peer-to-peer marketplace. Additionally, Adam founded Creontech LAN party, where they acted as the Founder & Network Engineer, managing the event and its network infrastructure.

Earlier in their career, Adam was the Founder & IT Director of the Creontech division at MSV STUDÉNKA s.r.o., providing web development and outsourcing services. Adam also worked as a System Administrator at the same company, leading the development of ICT infrastructure and services.

Adam's experience also includes serving as a Network Engineer at LanCraft, where they were responsible for building and maintaining the network infrastructure for a large esport LAN event in the Czech Republic.

Adam Surak has a strong educational background in information technology. Adam obtained their Bachelor's degree in Information Technology from VSB - Technical University of Ostrava in 2011. Following that, they pursued a Master's degree in Information Technology from the same university and successfully completed it in 2013.

During their educational journey, Adam also had the opportunity to study Computer Systems Networking and Telecommunications at Tampere University for a year, from 2012 to 2013.

Prior to their university education, Adam attended Gymnázium Mikuláše Koperníka Bílovec, where they earned their High School Diploma from 2000 to 2008.

In addition to their formal education, Adam Surak has also acquired several certifications to further enhance their skills and knowledge. Adam obtained the Incident Responder certification from PagerDuty in October 2020, the Software Defined Networking certification from Coursera in July 2014, and the Amazon Web Services Cloud Practitioner certification from Amazon Web Services (AWS) in November 2020.
