About the Position
The Senior Accountant reports to the Controller of Better Health Together (BHT) and supports the operation of the Better Health Together’s Finance Department by assisting with a wide range of administrative and accounting functions. The Senior Accountant is committed to supporting the Vision, Mission, Values and commitment to equity and aspirations of BHT in becoming an anti-racist health transformation organization. The Senior Accountant coordinates efforts inter-departmentally to ensure that all involved are on the same page concerning the program’s financial requirements, deadlines, and schedules.
Essential Job Functions
Effective Financial Program Management
This role understands financial program objectives and goals, which includes reviewing contracts and understanding financial deliverables. The Senior Accountant consistently reviews financial program deliverables and communicates unforeseen challenges/changes throughout the program to the Controller. Additionally:
Skilled Management + Communicator
The Senior Accountant is an effective collaborator, co-creating and maintaining a healthy organizational culture. This includes modeling a growth mindset for diversity, equity and inclusion. The Senior Accountant coordinates with various inter-department members of the team to ensure all members are on the same page concerning the program’s financial requirements, deadlines and schedules. Additionally:
Proxy: Acting Controller when Controller is on leave or as needed;
Learning and Teaching: Remain current in best practices in technology, accounting, and grants management. Shares this knowledge upward and across BHT teams;
Internal Controls: Follow and maintain established internal controls. Assist the Controller with implementation of any changes to internal controls; and
Process Improvement: Assess and recommend improvements for workflows, processes, and policies throughout the department. Support identifying areas of financial and compliance risk. Provide recommendations for mitigating identified risks and areas of challenge in the implementation of these recommendations.
Fiscal Competence + Data Compilation
The Senior Accountant assembles financial data to support the creation of status reports for Directors/EVPs. Additionally:
Reporting: Assists the Controller with a variety of reports required by the auditors for BHT's annual financial audit and federal Single Audit, to include responses to inquiries from local, state, and federal tax auditors for all BHT tax related items as needed;
Accounts Payable: Supervise and support the accounts payable processes. Assists staff with financial reporting support. Back up for Accounts Payable;
Budgets: Support BHT staff with budget questions and communications;
Month-end Closing: Reconcile all balance sheet accounts for the Controller’s review;
Year-end Closing: Assist the Controller with year-end closing to ensure proper classification of expenses, journal entries, and accruals;
Payroll: Prepare semi-monthly payroll, payroll changes, collaborate with the Director of People and Culture regarding employee benefit updates;
Accounts Receivable Invoicing: Gather and organize all financial supporting documentation by contract and due dates for Controller’s review;
Grant Compliance & Contract Management: Assist the Controller with financial grant compliance and contract management; and
Internal Financial Reports: Run detailed general ledger expense reports as requested by Director’s/EVP’s when needed; “Super User” skill level with Sage Intacct, Asana, and Fluxx.

Working Conditions
This position requires the ability to:
Remain in a stationary position for prolonged period of time;
Move/traverse within a multi-level office space, to/from community partner locations, and various meeting spaces;
Often move/transport equipment, supplies that may exceed 30 pounds;
Constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and printer; and
Communicate frequently, effectively, and accurately with internal and external partners.
Environmental Conditions
Generally, in an office environment with visits to external environments that require traveling to and from various locations within the BHT region of Spokane, Lincoln, Pend Oreille, Stevens, Ferry and Adams County and occasionally to the west side of the state. Post-COVID, BHT has adapted a hybrid work approach, encouraging in-person meetings with team members and community partners.
