Caroline Piercy

Caroline Piercy has worked in a variety of roles in the field of linguistics and speech technology. Caroline began their career in 2006 as a PhD Student at the University of Essex, where their thesis focused on the phonetics, phonology and sociolinguistics of change in the TRAP and BATH vowels in the southwest of England. Caroline then held a Research Associate position at Stanford University in 2010 and a Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow in Sociolinguistics at the University of Oxford in 2011. In 2012, they were a Postdoctoral research at Bangor University and then worked at Google as a Program Manager and people manager from 2012 to 2017. During this time, they were responsible for rolling out Google's text-to-speech voices across multiple languages and regions for products like Home, Assistant and Maps. From 2017 to 2022, they worked at Cirrus Logic as a Manager of Data Engineering and Speech Researcher. Currently, they are a Text to Speech Program Manager at BeyondWords.

Caroline Piercy obtained their PhD in Linguistics from the University of Essex between 2006 and 2010. In 2009, they attended Stanford University, although no degree was earned. Caroline then obtained their MA in Sociolinguistics from the University of Essex in 2006. Finally, they obtained their BA in Linguistics from the University of Sussex between 2000 and 2003.
