Nick Atkinson FLS

Nick Atkinson FLS has a diverse work experience in various environmental and conservation roles. Nick is currently the Chief Science Officer at BeZero Carbon, where they focus on carbon reduction strategies. In 2022, they also became an Expert at The Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market.

Previously, Nick held the position of Associate Fellow at the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (CEH), where they conducted research in ecology and hydrology. Nick was also the Founder of The World's End Consultancy, specializing in sustainable solutions for climate change and marine ecosystems.

Nick has lectured at Nottingham Trent University in ecology and conservation and has worked as a Senior Conservation Adviser at the Woodland Trust, leading carbon conservation projects. Nick was also the Editor of Naked Coral, a science news service supporting marine conservation campaigns.

In addition, Nick has served as a Woodland Carbon Task Force Officer at the Forestry Commission and had a career with BBC Wildlife as a Purveyor of words. Nick began their work in environmental conservation as a Minion at Mammals and Birds, Slough. Overall, Nick Atkinson FLS has a breadth of experience in environmental research, climate change, and conservation efforts.

Nick Atkinson FLS has a PhD in Biogeography & Population Genetics from The University of Edinburgh. Prior to their PhD, they obtained a BSc in Zoology from the University of Nottingham. No specific start or end years were provided for either degree.
