Alfred Mutale, MEngSc, BEng, is an experienced geotechnical engineer with a comprehensive background in underground and open-pit mining, demonstrating expertise in managing geotechnical challenges, ensuring safety, and promoting sustainable mining practices. Currently serving as the Underground Manager at BHP since March 2018, Alfred has overseen all operations at the Cliffs Underground Mine, focusing on maintaining zero harm while addressing technical geotechnical issues. Previously held senior geotechnical roles at Thiess, NewGold's Peak Gold Mine, Glencore, Xstrata Copper, African Mining Consultants Ltd, and Konkola Copper Mines plc, with responsibilities ranging from geotechnical analysis and design input to risk management and mentoring junior engineers. Alfred holds a Master of Engineering (MEngSc) in Geotechnical Engineering and Engineering Geology from UNSW and a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in Mining Engineering from Copperbelt University.
