Nicole Poulton is a Senior Research Scientist and the Director of Phytoplankton Ecology at Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences. Nicole has always been interested in the ocean and the creatures that live there. Nicole started their career as a lecturer at Boston College before becoming a guest scientist at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. In 2005, they joined Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences as a research scientist. Nicole's work focuses on studying phytoplankton, the tiny plant-like organisms that form the base of the marine food web. By understanding how these organisms grow and interact with their environment, Nicole is able to provide important insights into the health of our oceans.
Nicole Poulton has a doctorate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a bachelor's degree from Virginia Tech.
