Tanja Woyke is an accomplished scientist with extensive experience in microbiology and genetics, currently serving as an Adjunct Professor at the University of California, Merced since July 2023. Tanja has held various key positions at the Joint Genome Institute since February 2004, including Deputy Director of User Programs and Microbial Genome Program Lead. Other roles include Senior Staff Scientist, Staff Scientist, Research Scientist, and Postdoctoral Fellow. Tanja is also a Visiting Senior Scientist at the Laboratory for Research in Complex Systems and an Adjunct Scientist at Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences. Additionally, Tanja served as EGSB Department Head for Functional Genomics at Berkeley Lab from 2018 to 2020. Tanja earned a Ph.D. in Microbiology, Genetics, and Pharmaceutical Biology from the University of Tübingen in 2003 and a Diploma in Biology from the same institution in 1999.
