Sorin Jurca

Sorin Jurca is the VP, Head of Risk at Binance.US. Prior to joining Binance.US, Sorin served as the Senior Director, Head of Risk, Venmo & Xoom at PayPal from November 2015 to July 2022. Sorin has also held positions at Xoom Corporation and MoneyGram International.

At PayPal, Sorin was responsible for leading a team of 40 people in monitoring a global network of over 264,000 agents in 195 countries. Sorin successfully drove the creation of custom Analytics reports for the Anti-Fraud department and regulatory agencies and was also responsible for mobilizing departmental culture change.

Sorin's experience with AML laws, BSA, USA Patriot Act, OFAC has made him a valuable resource for escalated fraud issues. Sorin has also participated actively in cross-functional teams and key strategic projects, providing fraud risk assessment and strategic direction for development of new products and improved operational processes.

Sorin Jurca obtained their PhD in Physics of Nanomaterials and Nanostructures from Université Louis Pasteur (Strasbourg I). Sorin also has a MS in Physics and Chemistry of Materials from the same school. Their BS is in Physics (Engineering Physics) from Universitatea „Babeș-Bolyai” din Cluj-Napoca. In addition, they are certified as a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) from ACAMS.
