Damian Curtis has a wealth of experience in the field of Synthetic Biology and Genomics. Damian currently serves as Director of Synthetic Biology and Genomics at BioConsortia, Inc. Prior to this, they were a Senior Principal Scientist: Microbiology Lead, Microbial Research Technologies, Biologics R&D at Bayer CropSciences from 2012 to 2020. Damian also held the roles of Microbial Genetic Systems Team Lead, Principal Scientist, and Senior Scientist at Bayer CropSciences during this time. Before joining Bayer CropSciences, they worked at AgraQuest Inc. from 2010 to 2012, where they held the roles of Scientist II, Scientist I, and Postdoctoral Scientist. From 2004 to 2010, they were a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Oregon Health and Sciences University. From 1999 to 2004, they were employed at Exelixis, where they held the roles of Associate Research Scientist II, Associate Research Scientist I, Assistant Research Scientist II, and Assistant Research Scientist I. During their time at Exelixis, Damian developed a fully automated, 96-well plate pipeline for In Vitro Transcription/Translation expression and purification of human genes, mapped and positionally cloned C. elegans genes in Oncology and related projects, validated more than one thousand C. elegans SNPs using optimized Fluorescent Polarization assay in 384-well format, and converted genetic RFLP markers from Chlamydomonas into SNP markers, and mapped mutants for agricultural-biology projects.
Damian Curtis received their Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Health and Science jobs in 2009. From 1994 to 1996, they attended San Jose State University, earning a BS in Molecular Biology with a minor in Chemistry. Damian graduated from Los Gatos High School prior to that.
