Prof. Zhao is currently a Professor of the Institute of BioPhysics, at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, in Beijing. Prof. Zhao also serves as President of the Society for Free Radical Research Asia, as Chairman of the Committee for Free Radical Biology and Medicine at the Chinese BioPhysical Association, and as Vice President of the Committee for the Biological Gerontology Association in China.
His primary areas of interest are in the study of the mechanism of production of oxygen radicals in biological systems and their scavenging by natural antioxidants, and the study of the relationship of free radicals with diseases such as inflammation, neurondegeneration disorder, Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinson’s Disease, cancer, and aging. He is especially interested in investigating the efficacy of components from Chinese traditional medicines, herbal remedies, and foods. Prof. Zhao has been awarded several research grants, including from the National High Technology Research and Development Program, and the National Natural Science Foundation of China. He has published more than 200 scientific papers and has 3 patents.
