Niel Baxter

Niel Baxter has extensive experience in research and scientific roles. Niel is currently working as a Senior Research Scientist at BiomEdit since April 2022. Prior to that, they worked as a Senior Research Scientist at MBRD Service Company, LLC from January 2022 to April 2022.

From 2018 to 2021, Niel worked at Elanco in various research positions. Niel was a Senior Research Scientist - Nutritional Health from October 2020 to December 2021, a Research Scientist - Nutritional Health from October 2018 to October 2020, and a Postdoctoral Scientist - Computational Science from February 2018 to September 2018.

Before joining Elanco, Niel was associated with the University of Michigan. Niel worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow from May 2016 to February 2018, where they studied the impact of prebiotic supplements on the gut microbiome in healthy adults. Additionally, they developed and taught an undergraduate research course focused on the gut microbiome. Niel also worked as a PhD Student at the University of Michigan from July 2011 to May 2016, studying the role of the microbiome in the development and progression of colorectal cancer.

In 2017, Niel briefly worked as a Bioinformatics Consultant at Second Genome Inc. Niel also gained research experience as an Undergraduate Researcher at Indiana University Bloomington from December 2009 to December 2010.

Niel Baxter completed their education with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Michigan, which they earned between 2011 and 2016. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Biology from Indiana University Bloomington, graduating between 2009 and 2011. Baxter also attended the Pontifical College Josephinum in 2007 and 2008, where they pursued studies in Philosophy, although the details regarding a degree are not specified.
