Cairn Nicolai is a skilled research associate in metabolic engineering at Melt&Marble since May 2022. Previous experience includes an internship at Ginkgo Bioworks, Inc., where involvement in strain engineering projects focused on yeast and probiotic strains, notably building a yeast biosensor. Academic training includes an MSc in Molecular Life Science from Wageningen University & Research and a 1st year MSc in Plant Sciences from Université Paul Sabatier Toulouse III. Key projects during internships included engineering cyanobacteria for increased fatty acid production and developing a thermostable CRISPRi-Cas9 tool for gene silencing in fermentation pathways, as well as studying protein kinases' effects on programmed cell death in Nicotiana benthamiana.
