Shane is a Senior Scientific Consultant for BioTeam, specializing in High-Performance Computing (HPC) and High-Performance Storage. He has worked in the HPC industry for over 16 years while holding various positions from Systems Engineer, Systems Architect, and Manager of the Advanced Research Computing team at Children’s Mercy (CMH Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. At Data Direct Networks Shane designed extreme-performance peta-scale storage systems for life science customers researching cryo-electron microscopy and genomics. At Advanced Clustering, Shane participated in every technical stage of HPC cluster buildout, including pre-sales design, install and configuration, performance benchmarking, implementation, and customer training. While at CM, Shane designed and implemented the HPC infrastructure for the CM Research Institute and the Center for Pediatric Genomic Medicine (CPGM). Shane’s work at CPGM helped achieve the world’s first 48-hour whole-genome sequence (WGS), which later became the world’s first 26-hour WGS. These ultra-rapid clinical WGS tests are still in use today to help with emergency management of genetic diseases of critically ill children. From terrestrial and solar weather modeling, computational fluid dynamics, computational chemistry, genomics, and cryo-electron microscopy, Shane brings a great deal of experience working with and supporting scientific computing and storage. His goal is to help scientists through supercomputing technology to do their absolute best work.
