Melody Calkins

Melody Calkins serves as the Director of Health Policy at the Biotechnology Innovation Organization since August 2023 and previously held the position of Senior Manager of Health Policy in the same organization. Prior experience includes roles as Policy Specialist at the DC Department of Behavioral Health, where responsibilities included chairing the BHPC System and Benefit Design Committee and implementing behavioral health initiatives for Medicaid. Calkins has also worked as a Senior Health Policy Analyst at Centene Corporation and as a Healthcare Policy Analyst at WellCare Health Plans, focusing on legislative priorities within Medicare and Medicaid. Earlier experiences involve research and policy analysis at Christianson PLLP, the United States Senate, and various educational roles, with a strong foundation in public policy and healthcare compliance drawn from academic credentials from City University of Hong Kong and Drexel University.
