Kathleen Long has extensive work experience in the field of research and scientific laboratories. Kathleen is currently working at bit.bio as a Scientist since March 2022. Prior to this, they were a Research Assistant at bit.bio from April 2021 to February 2022.

Before joining bit.bio, Kathleen worked at the Wellcome Sanger Institute for several years. Kathleen'sroles there included being an Advanced Research Assistant in the Vidal-Puig group, where they focused on creating knockout and tagged iPS cell lines and differentiating iPSC to adipocytes. Kathleen also worked as an Advanced Research Assistant in the stem cell engineering team, where they were responsible for tissue culture of human iPSC and performing gene knockouts. Kathleen started their tenure at the Wellcome Sanger Institute as a Research Assistant in August 2014.

Kathleen also gained valuable work experience at St. James's Hospital in Dublin, where they spent two weeks in the Biochemistry Department. During their time there, they shadowed staff members and learned about the techniques and organization used in a clinical biochemistry lab.

Furthermore, Kathleen had a work experience placement at the MRC Institute of Genetics and Molecular Medicine. During their seven-week stint in the lab of Richard Meehan, they developed skills in various techniques such as immunocytochemistry, live cell imaging, aseptic technique, and PCR. Kathleen also gained experience in keeping a lab notebook and presenting in lab meetings.

Kathleen Long pursued their education in a systematic and progressive manner. Kathleen began their academic journey at Earlston High School, where they attended from 2005 to 2011. Following their time at high school, Kathleen enrolled at the University of York and studied Biochemistry. Kathleen successfully completed their Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Biochemistry at the University of York from 2011 to 2014.
