Entry-Level Position

Title:                                      Field Engineer

Reports to:                           Superintendent

Summary of Position:           Blach offers a unique approach to the Field Engineer role. The successful candidate will be primarily working as an entry level apprentice in the field building their craft skills as a carpenter during their 4 years of apprenticeship school. There will be opportunities to provide support and assistance to the Superintendent and project team in all aspects of job planning, scheduling safety and quality control, project documentation, developing and maintaining excellent relationships, budgeting, and cost control.

Typical Duties:

  • Complete 4 year carpenters union apprentice program
  • Work with carpenters, foreman, and superintendents
  • Attend and complete all required apprenticeship classes and required field hours
  • Work on developing carpentry skills on the job and learn basic knowledge of all other trades
  • Maintain a safe work environment
  • Build relationships and respect from coworkers/peers
  • Work with PE/PM to learn operations (RFIs/Submittal processing, scope statements, etc.)
  • Shadow Foreman/Asst. Supt./Supt.
  • Learn each phase of a construction project
  • Learn how to navigate through and have a general knowledge of plan reading

Skills/Qualifications:   

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Must be versatile with different types of construction tasks
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to train and educate others
  • Solid computer skills, especially the Microsoft Office suite, scheduling software (MS Project, P6, or Suretrak), and exposure to project management software (CMiC or similar program)
  • Proactive, takes initiative on all projects, possesses a willingness to learn and develop in their professional career
  • Problem solver, solutions-oriented

Position Status:                    Full-time, regular business hours, non-exempt
