Sofia Mohammed

Interim CEO at Black Girls CODE

Sofia Mohammed is the current interim CEO at Black Girls CODE. Sofia has dedicated their career to education and empowering young people, especially young women of color.

Mohammed started their career as a pre-calculus instructor at Achievement First in 2013. In this role, they developed and taught a curriculum that helped their students succeed in college-level math courses. Sofia also served as the STEM Academic Dean and Curriculum Developer for the organization. In this role, they oversaw the development and implementation of STEM curricula for 12 schools.

In 2018, Mohammed became the School Principal at Uncommon Schools. In this role, they led a team of educators and staff to create engaging and effective instructional models. Sofia also facilitated skill and mindset building trainings for their students. Additionally, they worked to restore the school’s relationship with its families by developing communication structures with a DEI lens.

Mohammed’s work has had a profound impact on the lives of their students. Sofia is a passionate advocate for education and believes that every child deserves access to quality educational opportunities.

Sofia Mohammed pursued a Master of Arts in Teaching from Relay Graduate School of Education and a BA in Sofia'story / African & African Diaspora Studies from Boston College.
