Huiwen (Winnie) Xu

Software Engineer, perception at Black Sesame Technologies

Huiwen (Winnie) Xu has a strong background in software engineering and perception. Huiwen (Winnie) is currently working as a Software Engineer at Black Sesame Technologies Inc. In this role, they focus on perception and has been with the company since November 2020.

Prior to that, Huiwen worked as a Research Assistant at the University of Michigan from September 2019 to November 2020. During this time, they contributed to research projects and gained experience in the field.

Before their work at the University of Michigan, Huiwen held an internship position at MoonX.ai in the summer of 2019. As a Software Engineer Intern, they developed a 3D HD map creation algorithm based on graph-based SLAM algorithm (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping with graph optimization). Huiwen (Winnie) also designed a submap forming method, which simplified the calculation unit and implemented an adaptive trigger for submap forming.

Earlier in 2019, Huiwen also worked as a Research Assistant at the University of Michigan. Huiwen (Winnie) presented a VO method based on direct intensity from RGB-D image. Huiwen (Winnie) implemented the Gauss-Newton algorithm to solve optimal transformations and increased the reliability of registration when camera distort/defocus.

Overall, Huiwen's work experience showcases their skills and expertise in software engineering and perception, specifically in the areas of SLAM, visual odometry, and algorithm development.

Huiwen (Winnie) Xu obtained a Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from Wuhan University of Technology in 2013-2017. Huiwen (Winnie) then pursued two Master's degrees, one in Robotics and the other in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, from the University of Michigan in 2017-2019.
