Animator
Location: Studio Based/Hybrid
Term: 1 Year Contract
We are seeking a creative and skilled Animator to bring characters, environments, and interactions to life in our upcoming titles. As part of our team, you will collaborate with designers, artists, and developers to create fluid, engaging animations that elevate the player experience and enrich the game world. This hands-on role demands a blend of creativity, technical expertise, and adaptability to meet the dynamic needs of an indie game studio.
Key Responsibilities
Create high-quality animations for characters, creatures, and other entities, ensuring they align with the game’s art style and narrative.
Animate environmental elements (e.g., interactive objects, effects) to enhance immersion and storytelling.
Develop animation assets from concept to final, game-ready form, iterating based on team feedback.
Build and maintain character rigs, ensuring effective skinning and deformation for fluid, realistic movement.
Collaborate with designers, artists, and developers to ensure animations align with gameplay requirements and player experience.
Implement and test animations within game engines (e.g., Unity, Unreal), troubleshooting and optimizing as necessary to maintain performance.
Adapt to various animation styles (e.g., 2D, 3D, pixel art), aligning with the unique artistic direction of each project.
Requirements
4+ years of animation experience, preferably in the video game industry, with at least one shipped title.
Proficiency in animation software (e.g., Maya, Blender, Spine) and familiarity with game engines like Unity or Unreal.
A strong portfolio showcasing a range of animation styles and techniques, particularly character and environmental animations.
Solid understanding of how animation impacts gameplay, player experience, and overall game feel.
Experience with character rigging and skinning, ensuring game-ready animations.
Ability to translate creative ideas into functional animations while independently resolving technical and artistic challenges.
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with a proactive approach to receiving and incorporating feedback.
Comfort with constructive criticism and direction from Team Leads, contributing to a collaborative creative process.
Desirable
A passion for video games and knowledge of indie game trends.
A degree in art, computer animation, or equivalent experience.
Familiarity with physics-based animations and procedural animation techniques.
