Sarah Z. Hakani

Sarah joins Bocoup as a Product Manager after designing accessible, hybrid learning experiences for adults, children, non-native English speakers, and more. With a background in Neuroscience (B.S.) and Technology & Innovation for Education (M.Ed), Sarah thinks critically about designing experiences that meet individuals where they are, moving beyond universal design frameworks into pluriversal design, which you can learn more about by clicking here.

In her role, Sarah aims to co-develop a strategic vision for the web, centered in justice and inclusion, and serve as a strategic advisor to various stakeholders in building and iterating on products and platforms. She cares deeply about inclusion in tech, assistive technology, and centering the priorities of the most marginalized when imagining the future of the web.

Currently, she is embarking on memory and synaptic transmission research in a creative technology Masters program at NYU, and as the artist-in-residence at The People’s Forum. She is a cofounder of Reconstructed, a creative publication that shares narratives of queer, Black, disabled, incarcerated, and Shi’a Muslims, complicating linear understandings of what it looks like to hold closeness to Islam. In her spare time, Sarah loves to screen print, learn new digital tools, DJ, and go on long bike rides with friends.
