Sarin Patel

Sarin Patel has worked in the field of data science and software engineering since 2009. In 2009, they began working as a Validation Engineer/Researcher at the Beckman Laser Institute & Medical Clinic, where they characterized tissue optical properties and analyzed burn regions on skin based on absorption and scattering. Sarin also fabricated tissue-mimicking silicone phantoms with specific optical properties to use as reference, and verified and validated the quality and accuracy of multiple generations of imaging systems. In 2012, they began working as a Biosignals Algorithms Engineer at Basis, an Intel company (acq Intel 3/2014), where they helped launch a multi-sensor health tracking device. Sarin developed and implemented a multi-sensored based classification algorithm to differentiate between various sleep stages, and developed and implemented a motion based sleep tossing and turning classifier. Sarin also managed large scale studies with universities to gather training data sets for various applications. In 2014, they began working as a Software Engineer at Intel Corporation. In 2016, they began working as a Senior Data Scientist at Eight, where they helped launch a smart mattress cover with multiple sensors and dynamic heating control in order to seamlessly track sleep and bedroom environment data. Sarin led the design and implementation of data classification algorithms from the raw signals to extract biological information, and developed recommendation models based on user's daily habits. Sarin also investigated user data and metrics with respect to temporal, seasonal, and demographic trends, as well as against external data sources. Finally, in 2017, they began working as a Data Scientist at Bodyport.

Sarin Patel holds a Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical Engineering from UC Irvine, and a Master's Degree in Biomedical Engineering: Medical Device & Diagnostic Engineering from the University of Southern California.
