Kathleen Ware

Kathleen Ware, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, CNOR has a diverse work experience in the healthcare industry. Kathleen is currently serving as the Hospital Administrator & Vice President of Nursing at Bon Secours Mercy Health's Southern Virginia Medical Center since December 2020. Prior to this, they held the role of Administrative Director Nursing Operations at Southside Regional Medical Center from January 2020 to December 2020.

From 2017 to 2020, Kathleen worked at Southside Regional Medical Center as the Administrative Director Of Surgical Services. Kathleen played a crucial role in the reorganization and implementation of a new charge system and billing process that significantly increased revenue and charges. Before this, they served as the Director Surgical Services for the Williamsburg Region of Riverside Health System, where they contributed to the establishment of a new acute care hospital and oversaw the development of infrastructure. Kathleen also served as a Nurse Manager at the Doctors Surgery Center in Williamsburg during this time.

In 2016, Kathleen took on the role of Interim Director Perioperative Services at Western Arizona Regional Medical Center through Community Health Systems. Kathleen provided stability and guidance during a period of transition and change in the Surgical Services Department.

Before their roles in management, Kathleen gained valuable experience as an Emergency Room Nurse at VCU Health from 2001 to 2003. Kathleen also served as a Paramedic/Firefighter for the Newport News Fire Department and York County Fire and Life Safety from 1989 to 2002.

Kathleen's career began in the United States Air Force, where they served as a member of the USAF from 1985 to 1989.

Prior to their Master's degree, they earned a Bachelor's degree in Nursing Leadership from Western Governors University from 2016 to 2017. In 1993 to 1996, they completed their BS in Emergency Medical Management from Hampton University. Additionally, Kathleen holds an Associate of Arts (AA) in Registered Nursing/Registered Nurse from J. Sergeant Reynolds Nursing, although the specific dates of completion are unknown. Kathleen has also obtained certifications as a Nurse Executive Advanced (NEA-BC) from the American Nurses Credentialing Center in 2019 and holds a CNOR certification from the Competency and Credentialing Institute.
