Joshua Lerman

Director of Computation at Bota Biosciences

Joshua Lerman has a diverse work experience in the biotechnology and computational biology fields. Joshua is currently working as the Director of Computation at Bota Bio since June 2020. Before this, they worked at Amyris from 2017 to 2020, where they held multiple roles. As Associate Director, Computational Biology, they led a team and developed tools for strain engineering using advanced computational approaches. Prior to this, they served as Scientist 3 and Scientist 2, working on DARPA-funded projects and scaling up molecule production. Before joining Amyris, Joshua was a Computational Scientist at Total New Energies USA, Inc. from 2014 to 2017, where they were seconded to Amyris and worked in the Scientific Computing group. Joshua started their career as a PhD student at UC San Diego, completing their PhD in Bioinformatics and Systems Biology in the Palsson lab. At UCSD, they focused on biological network reconstruction and simulation. Joshua also has research experience from their time as an Undergraduate Research Fellow at Technion - Israel Institute of Technology and UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, where they worked on projects related to chondrocyte mechanotransduction and drug addiction, respectively.

Joshua Lerman's education history is as follows:

Joshua Lerman attended Atlantic Community High School from 2000 to 2004. After completing their high school education, they went on to The Johns Hopkins University, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Biomedical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, and Statistics. Joshua studied at The Johns Hopkins University from 2004 to 2008.

Following their undergraduate studies, Joshua Lerman enrolled at UC San Diego and pursued a higher level of education. Joshua obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree from UC San Diego in the field of Bioinformatics and Systems Biology. Joshua Lerman's PhD program at UC San Diego spanned from 2008 to 2014.

It is worth noting that Joshua Lerman obtained a PhD in Bioinformatics and Systems Biology from UC San Diego, which is the same field of study mentioned earlier, in addition to their specific degree name.
