James Stevens has a diverse work experience spanning various industries. James started their career as a Network Security Engineer at Mercedes-Benz UK Limited in 2005. James then moved on to Leonardo, where they worked as an Integration Engineer from 2007 to 2010, and later as a Systems Engineer from 2010 to 2013. Following this, they joined Bournemouth University in 2013 as an IT Security Analyst and eventually became the Information Security Manager. Since 2017, they have been serving as the Chief Data Officer at Bournemouth University, overseeing data governance and security, as well as holding the role of Board Member at Dorset County Pension Fund. In 2020, they also became a Trustee at Home-Start Wessex.

James Stevens has a First Class BSc (Hons) in Business Information Systems Management from Bournemouth University, which they obtained from 2003 to 2007. In 2023, they attended Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, for a course in Artificial Intelligence. James also has various certifications, including the Oxford Artificial Intelligence Programme from the University of Oxford, Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM), Certified Information Privacy Professional/Europe (CIPP/E), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP®), EU GDPR Foundation (EU GDPR F) qualification, ITIL 2011 Foundation, Cisco Certified Network Associate Security (CCNA Security), ISO27001:2013 Lead Auditor (CIS LA 2013), ISO27001 Certified ISMS Lead Implementer (CIS LI), and ISEB/ISTQB Foundation.
