Science Editor at BrainPOP

Andrea Alfano has a diverse work experience in science communication and writing roles. Andrea started their career as a research assistant at Cornell University, where they collected and analyzed data for chemical ecology research. Andrea then worked as a writing intern at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, followed by positions as a student writer and assistant editor at Cornell University's College of Agriculture & Life Sciences.

After their time at Cornell, Andrea gained experience in science reporting as a science reporter at Tech Times and as a scientific American MIND editorial intern at Scientific American. Andrea then joined Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory as a content developer and communicator, where they pitched, conducted interviews, and wrote stories for the Lab's blog and website.

Most recently, Andrea has been working at BrainPOP as a senior science writer. In this role, they write and edits scripts for animated videos on science and health topics, develops art direction in collaboration with animators, and records and edits audio.

Throughout their career, Andrea has showcased their strong writing skills and ability to effectively communicate scientific concepts to a wide audience.

Andrea Alfano pursued their undergraduate education from 2010 to 2014 at Cornell University, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. After completing their undergraduate studies, Andrea attended the Santa Fe Science Writing Workshop, a workshop led by veteran science journalists, to enhance their skills in Science Writing. In August 2022, they obtained a certification in Video Storytelling from the Berkeley Advanced Media Institute.
