The Role

We are seeking a Scientific Operations Manager to be based in our London UK office location. This role will work across leasing, design and construction, asset management and asset services to ensure that our mission-driven client companies have a single point of contact on their lab operational needs and supporting our Breakthrough team on all matters related to operations of research and development focused facilities.

Responsibilities:

  • As part of the Breakthrough Property scientific operations team, work with internal team members on operational needs for client companies including fit plans, lab equipment planning and any construction support to design and construction team during client fit out of spaces.
  • Source, track and monitor prospective client (tenant) prospects and work with London team and third-party leasing brokers to identify tenants in the market.
  • Develop standard operating procedures and programs for laboratory safety, safety training, chemical inventories, laboratory audits, laboratory operational permits, hazardous waste disposal, and maintain accurate and up-to-date records on all training, permits, and incidents as needed.
  • Coordinate vendor contracts and establish programs for purchasing laboratory supplies and general consumables to be stocked at the facility.
  • Establish and maintain service and maintenance programs on all company-owned laboratory and office equipment, including any StudioLabs facilities.
  • Act as concierge and operations point of contact for all visitors to StudioLabs
  • Provide guidance and support to tenants, initiate new services for tenants as required (oversee shipping and receiving and deliveries)
  • Assist tenants with recommending laboratory equipment/systems and coordinate installation of any equipment, assuring that all equipment requirements, including lab utilities and any safety requirements, are met.
  • Coordinate facilities repairs and routine maintenance on shared equipment and be a resource for client-tenant requests.
  • Conduct tenant orientations and onboarding as needed, safety training, and maintain access controls.
  • Accounts Payable – Facilitate processing of invoices utilizing applicable systems
  • Accounts Receivable – Facilitate accounts receivable processes, in accordance with lease terms
  • Assist in the preparation of the periodic financial reports
  • Assist with client experience programming and events in accordance with the annual property budgets
  • Manage contact lists, meeting agendas, and general communications to client companies including property specific information and holiday schedules
  • Facilitate building and suite access, via fobs and access cards
  • Maintain Certificate of Insurance management for all vendor partners and client companies
  • Perform other property management functions required of the position and/or assigned project(s)

Qualifications:

  • 5 + years of experience running a science laboratory.

  • Experience in setting up a new lab is a plus.

  • Prior wet lab bench experience is preferred.

  • Familiarity with the life science industry and local ecosystem.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task, and prioritize effectively.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with individuals at all levels, provide guidance, and great customer service.

  • Must be detail-oriented, organized, and able to consistently deliver timely and accurate results.

  • Passport required with willingness to travel between London, Oxford, and Cambridge; with eventual expansion to other European markets.
