Carri Jenkins

Carri P. Jenkins directs the work of BYU University Communications, serves as a member of the President’s Council and acts as the university’s primary spokesperson—a role she has held since 1997.

University Communications manages BYU’s most important, visible and public informational portals and services on campus, which are critical to the University and its daily function. The centralized news and information bureau the department manages is a primary BYU information source for both internal and external audiences. The department is the sole unit authorized to disseminate official university information to the media. It also administers, manages and provides content for all of BYU's official social media channels and www.byu.edu. It operates BYU's YouTube channels, which exclusively feature BYU content including profiles about initiatives, research news and faculty and student accomplishments. The University Communications video team produces all content on this channel as a service to the campus community.

Additionally, University Communications manages the Y News, which is a daily email newsletter that is sent to 7,700 full-time BYU employees. The department also produces a Student Email, which is sent to 35,300 students twice a month.

A Utah native, Carri received bachelor’s and master's degrees from BYU in communications. For 12 years, she served as the associate editor of BYU Magazine, where she currently serves as the associate publisher. She also has been an instructor in the BYU Communications Department, a university speech writer and a publicity director. Prior to her current position, she was the director of Media Communications at BYU. 

Carri has a long history with CASE (Council for Advancement and Support of Education), culminating in her service as chair of District VII. In March 2020, she was named the Nancy Treser-Osgood Tribute Award recipient. She has been a member of CASE’s International Commission on Communication and the CASE District VII Board of Directors and Executive Committee. Additionally, she has served on several conference planning committees. She is a past chair of CASE’s Annual Conference for Media Relations Professionals and is a charter member of CASE-UT.

Recently honored by the Public Relations Society of America with Utah’s Professional of the Year Award, Carri has sought throughout her career to build synergetic relationships. In June 2020, she was awarded the Board Appreciation Award from the University Photographer’s Association of America. She is a past president of the Consortium for Utah Women in Higher Education and served on the Mountainland Advisory Board of Utah Valley University.
