Tarryn Smith

Tarryn joined Bristows’ commercial IP/IT team as an associate in January 2022. She has experience advising on a range of data protection matters, most notably in relation to compliance requirements in the technology and adtech industries.

Tarryn qualified as an attorney in South Africa in 2016 and practised as a regulatory and commercial associate at an international law firm. She focused on data protection and advised companies on numerous matters in relation to the recently implemented Protection of Personal Information Act.

Tarryn also has experience working as in-house counsel at an advertising and marketing technology start-up in Germany and at a broadcasting and content creation company in the Netherlands. Her in-house roles focused on providing day to day legal support, compliance in relation to data protection laws and negotiating on various industry related agreements.

Tarryn studied an Advanced Masters of Law in the Netherlands where she furthered her knowledge in relation to IT and European data protection laws.
