Sam Engwell

Sam Engwell is a Senior Geologist and Volcanologist at the British Geological Survey since September 2015, focusing on designing projects to understand volcanic eruption dynamics and developing hazard assessment tools for regions like Cabo Verde, Ethiopia, and Indonesia. Engwell served as an Equality, Diversity, and Inclusivity Representative for the Volcanic and Magmatic Studies Group Committee from January 2020 to January 2021, contributing to diversity analysis and strategy development. Previous roles include Research Fellow and Marie Curie Early Stage Researcher at Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia, and a Doctoral Researcher at the University of Bristol, where Engwell completed a PhD in Geology with a focus on volcanic eruptions. Educational background includes a Master's in Natural Hazards and a Bachelor's in Geology/Earth Science from the University of Bristol and the University of Edinburgh, respectively.
