Vickie L. Cartwright

Superintendent of Schools at Broward County Public Schools

Vickie L. Cartwright is the current Interim Superintendent of Broward County Public Schools. Vickie has served in this role since July 2018. Prior to their current position, they were the Superintendent of the Oshkosh Area School District from July 2018 to June 2021.

Under Cartwright's leadership, the Oshkosh Area School District experienced a number of successes. Vickie led the process to create a five-year strategic plan with measurable outcomes, as well as an on-going culture change in the area of equity & equitable practices/systems. Vickie also provided leadership to create an Equity & Inclusion Committee comprised of parents & community leaders.

In addition, Cartwright led the process to create a long-term facilities plan through diverse community & employee representatives. Vickie also successfully led the passage of a $107M capital referendum & a renewal of two combined operational referendums at $7.95M (Capital referendum - largest in District history & over $17M in interest savings). Other notable achievements include leading the process to provide appropriate interventions for students with dyslexia and leading the review process of an elementary school reading program, which resulted in the adoption of a stronger phonics-based program.

Since their time as Interim Superintendent of Broward County Public Schools, Cartwright has continued to provide strong leadership during times of change and adversity. Vickie has led the district's response to COVID-19, which has included the acquisition of digital devices for PK-2 students, the acquisition of internet hot spots, and the creation of a full-time virtual school (KG-12). Vickie has also continued to focus on equity initiatives, including the implementation of an SEL curriculum.

Dr. Vickie L. Cartwright has a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Educational Administration and Supervision from The University of Southern Mississippi. Vickie also has a Specialist of Educational Administration (Ed.S.) degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from The University of Southern Mississippi. In addition, they have a Master of Music Education degree from The University of Southern Mississippi and a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Florida. Dr. Cartwright is certified by the Texas Education Agency as a School Superintendent, Superintendent – Grades PK-12, and Mid-Management Administrator. Vickie is also certified by the Florida Department of Education as an Educational Leader (all levels) and by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction as a School Superintendent.
