Timothy Edgar

Senior Fellow In International And Public Affairs at Brown University

Timothy Edgar serves as the Academic Director for the Master of Science in Cybersecurity at Brown University School of Professional Studies since July 2015 and is a Lecturer on Law at Harvard Law School since January 2020. Additionally, Timothy has held the role of Senior Fellow in International and Public Affairs at Brown University since January 2013. Previous positions include Senior Legal Advisor at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence from December 2010 to December 2012, and Director of Privacy and Civil Liberties at the National Security Council during the Obama administration from August 2009 to November 2010. Timothy's earlier experience includes serving as National Security Policy Counsel for the ACLU from May 2001 to March 2006 and Associate Attorney at Shea & Gardner from July 1998 to April 2001. Timothy began a legal career as a Law Clerk for Judge Sandra Lynch at the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit from July 1997 to July 1998. Timothy holds a Doctor of Law (J.D.) from Harvard Law School (1994-1997) and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in History from Dartmouth College (1990-1994).
