Brunswick works with some of the biggest and most impactful foundations, philanthropists, and multilateral organizations combatting the greatest challenges of our time from pandemics to climate change, inequality to access to education.

Our two broad areas of expertise include:

• Philanthropy: Our Philanthropy team advises philanthropists and philanthropic organizations on tackling some of the biggest challenges facing the non-profit sector, foundations, and Ultra High Net Worth giving today.

• Global Health & Development: Our Global Health and Development team help organizations tackle some of the biggest threats to the health of humanity and prosperity of the world’s poorest people.

Opportunity

We are looking to hire an Associate to work closely with our Foundations & Non-Profit clients. You will join a strong and established team of former academics, journalists, speech writers, content creators and health specialists working across five continents, helping clients run coordinated policy, advocacy, and communications campaigns to create real change.

The role responsibilities may include but are not limited to: 

• Drive execution on client accounts within the foundations and non-profit sector, managing workflow and key elements (e.g. client calls, first drafts of documents etc.). 

• Advise foundations and non-profits clients across a range of issues and communications disciplines, with support of Directors/Partners, drawing on independent experience and insights.

• Understand complex sector issues and the attitude of media, politicians/regulators, NGOs and other stakeholder groups.

• Play a key role in team management and dynamics, including supporting smooth team transitions, and serving as a day-to-day mentor to junior team members.

• Play an active role in drafting new business proposals and letters of engagement, including participating in pitch meetings.

• Foster a network of journalist and stakeholder contacts and relationships, proactively building a network to identify new business prospects and media contacts.

• Together with Partners and Directors, proactively drive the strategic growth of Brunswick’s Foundations & Non-Profits sector.

Candidate Specification

Experience:

• Experience within the philanthropic space and/or a background working with a global charitable foundation, global health organisation, or NGO would be advantageous.

• A proven ability and expertise in advising clients and/ or other key senior stakeholders on complex strategic issues, specific to the philanthropy sector.

• A deep understanding of the philanthropic sector and related issues, ideally in the context of Sub-Saharan Africa.

• Personal passion and drive to work closely with philanthropic organisations, foundations, and multilateral organisations, helping them to bring their purpose to life and to navigate multiple challenges and opportunities.

• A deep understanding of the intersection of business, politics and society, particularly as it relates to this sector. 

• Prior knowledge of the global media landscape and relevant media handling experience would be a plus, but not required.

• Ability to think strategically and creatively, with strong problem-solving skills and an eye for strategic opportunity.

• Ability to drive complex, multi-faceted programmes of work with both good humour and intellectual rigour.

• An entrepreneurial mindset and approach. 

• The ability to operate effectively in a commercial, self-starting, and fast-paced environment.

• A strong verbal and written communicator with high EQ levels and an engaging presentation style.

• Energetic team player, demonstrating a commitment to helping colleagues at all levels of the firm accomplish their individual and client objectives.

• Strong attention to detail with the ability to multitask in high-pressure situations.
