ROLE SUMMARY

We are seeking an experienced finance leader to join Built as the Senior Director of Finance, reporting to Built’s CFO and responsible for all aspects of financial reporting, financial planning and analysis (FP&A), operational and strategic decision support, maintaining Built’s long-range plan, and building a world-class Finance practice at Built. This role is crucial in providing strategic insights and financial guidance to support our company's growth objectives. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of financial modeling, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis, coupled with a strategic mindset, an acute understanding of how to drive change through a people-first leadership style, a tenacious pursuit of excellence, and high responsibility as a key partner to the CEO, executive team, and broader business.

In this role you will:

  • Financial Planning & Analysis: providing strategic direction and oversight for all financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis activities. Develop and maintain sophisticated financial models to support decision-making by executive leadership and the board of directors.
  • Financial Reporting: Ensure the accurate and timely preparation of financial statements and reports, including profit and loss, balance sheet, and cash flow statements. Implement best practices in financial reporting to enhance transparency and compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations.
  • Decision Support: Act as a strategic advisor to business units and functional leaders, offering insights and analysis to support operational efficiency and strategic initiatives. Conduct in-depth financial analysis to identify opportunities for cost savings, revenue enhancement, and process improvements. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align financial planning with operational strategies.
  • Strategic Finance: Serve as a key advisor to the CFO and executive team on financial matters, contributing to the formulation of corporate strategy and financial objectives, including organic and inorganic growth.
  • Capital Allocation: Lead the development and execution of the annual budget, working closely with department heads to ensure alignment with strategic objectives. Embed frugality and world-class resource allocation as a cultural and operational norm through monthly budget variance analysis and supporting leaders as they manage tradeoffs in resource allocation.
  • Forecasting and Scenario Analysis: Conduct monthly and quarterly forecasting to project financial outcomes based on current and anticipated business activities. Develop scenario analysis models to evaluate the financial impact of strategic decisions, macroeconomic conditions, initiative performance, and operational tradeoffs.
  • Financial Reporting and Analysis: Oversee the generation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, providing analysis and insights on key performance indicators (KPIs), financial trends, and business drivers. Ensure stakeholders have the information needed to make informed decisions.
  • Building a World-Class Finance Function: Champion the transformation of the FP&A function into a world-class finance team. Implement leading-edge financial systems, processes, and analytics tools to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and strategic insight. Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and professional development within the finance team.
  • Board and Investor Communications: Lead the preparation and presentation of financial reports for board meetings and investor updates. Articulate financial strategies, performance, and forecasts effectively to ensure understanding and support from external stakeholders.
  • Mentorship and Team Development: Mentor and develop the FP&A team, fostering a culture of high performance, continuous improvement, and professional growth. Ensure the team possesses the skills, knowledge, and motivation to support the organization's financial and strategic objectives.

Who You Are:

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in financial planning and analysis, in a leadership role and preferably within a high-growth enterprise software or technology company.
  • Preferred prior experience in investment banking, venture capital/private equity, or related fields.
  • Proven track record of developing financial strategies, building financial models, and leading budgeting and forecasting processes.
  • Deep understanding of how to connect operational components to financial outcomes, both mechanistically within reporting, forecasting, and decision making, as well as connectivity between teams within an organization.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and translate it into actionable insights.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the capability to convey financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Strong management skills, including process and project management, managing deliverables across multiple constituencies.

Built’s salary range for this position is $250,000-$290,000 USD per year. The pay range is designed to accommodate upward mobility in the role, therefore it encompasses the full span of proficiency levels for this role and we believe that the midpoint of the range is competitive in the market. Salary is just one component of Built's total compensation package for employees.
