Gyan Rai

Dr. Gyan P. Rai joined ByHeart as the Director of Regulatory Affairs in July 2020. Dr. Rai is a reputed scientist and a skilled leader with over 20 years of experience in related fields.

Gyan holds a B.Tech in Chemical Technology, a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, and an MBA in Pharmaceutical Management. Dr. Rai used novel molecular biology techniques to pioneer directed evolution mutations of the chloroperoxidase enzyme as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. These new forms of the enzyme were important in the chemical synthesis of pharmaceutical drug intermediates. Gyan began his industry career at ADM using metabolic engineering to produce lactate for use as biodegradable polymers. Gyan was the founding Chair of the Biotechnology program at Ivy Tech Community College. Gyan established bioanalytical capability at Mead Johnson developing several novel bioassays to characterize human and bovine milk. Dr. Rai led a Regulatory team launching across several product categories including infant formulas, medical foods, foods, OTCs, and dietary supplements.
