Alex Fells

Alex Fells has a diverse work experience in various roles. They started their career as an Assistant Process Engineer at Offshore Design Engineering Ltd in 2013. They then worked as an Industrial Placement Process Design Engineer at Sellafield Ltd in 2014, providing technical support and ensuring alignment with strategic changes and risks. In 2015, they returned to Offshore Design Engineering Ltd as a Graduate Process Engineer, gaining experience in process simulation, engineering calculations, and safety studies.

In 2016, Alex joined Sellafield Ltd as a Graduate Process Design Engineer, where they provided design and operational support to multiple facilities. Their responsibilities included process design, system engineering, and operational support in different departments. They also worked on modelling capability and supporting calculations.

In 2018, Alex started working at the University of Leeds as a Postgraduate Researcher. Their research focused on developing a design strategy for Pulsed Sieve-plate Extraction Columns (PSEC) using modelling and simulation. They also worked as a Teaching Assistant, demonstrating and marking for various modules related to chemical thermodynamics, process engineering operations, and nuclear operations.

During their time at the University of Leeds, Alex also worked as a Research Assistant, supporting mass transfer and hydrodynamic experiments using the Multiscale Annual Centrifugal Contactors pilot plant.

Most recently, Alex joined C-Capture Ltd. in Leeds as a Modelling Engineer in 2023, where they continue to apply their expertise in modelling.

Overall, Alex has a strong background in process design, operational support, modelling, and simulation in the fields of nuclear operations, fuel cycle, and engineering.

Alex Fells has a diverse education history with a focus on engineering and nuclear energy. In 2003, they attended Acle High School for their secondary education. From 2008 to 2010, they studied Maths, Chemistry, and Music at East Norfolk College. In 2011, Alex enrolled at the University of Leeds, where they completed an Integrated Master of Engineering (MEng) and Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degree in Chemical and Nuclear Engineering (Industrial) in 2015. In 2014, they participated in the Clean Energy Summer School at Xiamen University. Most recently, in 2019, Alex attended Delft University of Technology, where they pursued a specific area of interest in Nuclear Engineering, specializing in the Generation IV reactor fuel cycle.
