James Smadbeck

Senior Computational Biologist at C2i Genomics

James Smadbeck has worked in the field of biomedical informatics since 2014. James began their career at Aspen Technology as an Engineer, where they worked in research and development and provided mentorship to academic interns. In 2015, they joined the Mayo Clinic as a Professor of Biomedical Informatics and an Associate Consultant I. In this role, they developed algorithms and pipelines for the analysis of omics data, as well as for the interpretation and genomic reconstruction of complex structural rearrangements. James also served as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Mayo Clinic, working on the development of advanced clustering, copy number variation, and aneuploidy detection algorithms. In 2022, they began working as a Senior Computational Biologist at C2i Genomics.

James Smadbeck obtained their Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Chemical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2009. James then went on to pursue their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Chemical and Biological Engineering from Princeton University, which they completed in 2015.
