Franz provides strategic direction for the firm and chairs the investment committees for all funds and investment programs. He has been the CEO of Cabot since founding the firm in 2002, raising nine discretionary funds and creating enduring partnerships with leading global investors. Franz is focused on sustaining Cabot’s strong record of realized returns and creating opportunity for the firm’s growing international team.

Franz joined his father in the industrial property business in 1996. He was its Chief Financial Officer when it went public as Cabot Industrial Trust in 1998, and during the years that this New York Stock Exchange listed Real Estate Investment Trust was the top performing industrial REIT before it was sold in 2001.

Franz previously worked as a consultant with McKinsey & Company and an investment banker with Merrill Lynch & Co, living and working in New York City, London, Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Budapest.

Franz is a trustee of the Urban Land Institute and serves on the Americas Executive Committee as Chair of its Finance Committee. He has served as a trustee or board member for numerous businesses and nonprofits, lectured at Harvard University and often speaks at real estate industry conferences.

Franz graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard College in 1985, where he studied History and earned an MBA in 1991 from Harvard Business School. He won a Robert Bosch Fellowship after business school and worked at the German Central Bank in Frankfurt.
