Gilles Godbout began his career in 1975 as an Economist at Bank of Canada in the research department before joining the monetary and financial analysis department. In 1978, he joined the Ministère des Finances du gouvernement du Québec, where he held a variety of management positions. He served as Assistant Deputy Minister for fiscal and budgetary policy from 1993 to 1996, then as Québec Deputy Finance Minister from 1996 to 2005. He later became Associate General Secretary of the Ministère du Conseil exécutif and, from 2006 to 2008, Senior Vice-President, Private Equity, at CDPQ.

Mr. Godbout has a Bachelor of Arts, a Licence in History and a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Economics. He was Chair of the Steering Committee on Fuel Prices in Québec and a member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Centre for Architecture. He was also appointed an Ambassador of Université de Sherbrooke.
