We are looking for an experienced Calibration Technician that is looking to move forward in their career to the next step of Metrology Supervisor. We are looking to help the right candidate grow their career in Metrology by providing the training and assistance needed.
Summary
The Metrology Supervisor is a unique job description as each supervisor, under the direct supervision of the Operations Manager, oversees a specific laboratory and is primarily responsible for the Day-to-Day laboratory operations. A Metrology Supervisor will have a strong desire to learn and become qualified in numerous equipment categories and qualified on most of the laboratory's calibration standards. In addition, the candidate will also possess a strong, well-balanced desire to maintain production levels and quality assurance.
The Metrology Supervisor is also responsible for coaching, resolving issues and serving as a link between subordinates and upper management. They are able to guide and train employees by being well-versed in processes under the role’s responsibility to ensure that laboratory operations are carried out productively so as to ensure profitability and sustainable growth. This position also requires that the individual be well versed on the majority of the types of calibrations that the laboratory performs, including the understanding and enforcement of the quality management system's policies and procedures.
The Metrology Supervisor is also required to perform client calibrations onsite and maintain production levels determined by Management.

Education/Work Experience Requirements and Skill Requirements
A minimum of 2 years working in a calibration laboratory with a strong management or supervisory skills
Must have a valid driver’s license
Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds unassisted
Candidate MUST be willing to travel to local and regional on-site locations, with occasional overnight travel to surrounding states. Actual frequency of on-site travel is dependent on customer requests.
Duties and Responsibilities (Customer Service)
Promptly address customer requests, inquiries and complaints taking actions as appropriate to satisfy the customer or resolve the issue
Set priorities based on customers’ requirements and gives high priority to satisfying customers through listening, understanding and anticipating customer needs
Duties and Responsibilities (Production Control)
Establish and ensure calibration and repair production schedules, goals, and priorities are accomplished
Organize workflow and ensure that employees understand their duties or delegated tasks
Monitor employee productivity and provide constructive feedback and coaching
Pass on information from upper management to employees and vice versa
Participate in weekly production meetings with all supervisors, including; establishing agenda, querying production, or querying anomaly issues discovered
Field and initiate customer complaints
Notify customers of any delays or major deviations in the performance or Turn-Around-Time of in-house calibrations
Perform equipment check-out and check-in for calibration equipment that is issued to technicians for onsite jobs
Perform initial contract review process in the form of the customer’s current SCS and submitted customer purchase orders
Ensure all laboratory spaces, workbenches, technician benches, kitchen areas are kept clean and tidy, including performing weekly cleaning inspections with the Quality and Metrology Managers
Ensure laboratory operations are supplied with consumables
Ensure that onsite service packets are complete and submitted within 48 hours of onsite job completion
Ensure that the laboratory has the capabilities to perform all onsite service requests
Ensure that company owned equipment scheduled for onsite calibration will not come due for calibration before or during the scheduled onsite job
Determine the technician resources (equipment requirements, number of technicians, assignment of lead technician, estimate the number of days to complete, etc.) for the onsite job
Oversee laboratory safety and ensures that the laboratory remains in compliance with all local, state and federal regulations; in cases where non-compliance is found, document the instances as well as how they were abated
Communicate and enforce laboratory safety rules to staff working in the lab
Ensure all users of the lab are wearing the appropriate personal protection equipment (PPE)
Communicate with vendors for general maintenance of laboratory support equipment such as HVAC, security, electrical, etc.
Maintain supply levels and orders, stores and distributes new supplies as required
Maintain all equipment in the respective department through cleanliness and reliability by routine preventive maintenance
Initiate calibration interval extension requests
Duties and Responsibilities (Quality Assurance)
the application of various measurement methods, characteristics, and analyzation of calibration data. Correct error sources that can affect measurement results, report measurement uncertainty using appropriate accepted statistical techniques, determine conformance status and apply various methods of identifying and segregating nonconforming M&TE
identifying and applying common M&TE specification descriptions, distinguish between characteristics of specifications.
Duties and Responsibilities (Personnel Supervision)
Provide motivation, coaching, and guidance for staff members
Ensure staff understand and comply with laboratory’s policies
Understand and contribute to the lab’s goals, while effectively implementing team building and team facilitation skills to accomplish the goals
Effectively use teams to address both routine and important issues, and builds and maintains productive working relationships within all laboratory organizational levels
Communicates effectively and persuasively by showing similarities in positions or goals held by participants in a manner that gains agreement or acceptable compromise from all parties involved where both parties involved can identify value added in the resulting agreement
Able to express ideas clearly in writing by adapting terminology to the various levels of experience of the staff members
Able to create a work environment for subordinates that cultivates personal growth and excellence
Outline clear expectations and standards of performance while promoting cooperation and teamwork
Collaborate with the respective Laboratory Manager concerning all employee issues such as training, education, coaching and disciplinary actions
Sets realistic and obtainable performance standards and provide feedback to subordinates
