Tessa De Roy has a diverse range of work experience spanning multiple sectors. Tessa started their career at the ACLU of Southern California as an Assistant to the Executive Director, where they provided administrative support and served as a liaison to various coalitions. Tessa then worked as a Program Associate at the California Community Foundation before joining Strategic Actions for a Just Economy as the Director of Banking Accountability. In this role, they led an advocacy campaign to provide people on public assistance with bank accounts.
Tessa then became a Principal Consultant at Urban Resources, where they worked until 2013. During this time, they also started working as a Senior Program Officer at The Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert Foundation, focusing on the College Access and Success Initiative.
Their most recent role is as the President of the California College Guidance Initiative. In this position, they oversee the management of California's College and Career Planning Platform, which provides students with tools and information to plan for their education and explore career options.
Tessa De Roy obtained a B.A. in Sociology and Political Science from Sarah Lawrence College between 1987 and 1991. Later, they pursued an M.A. in Urban Planning at UCLA from 1997 to 1999. Finally, Tessa completed an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership at UCLA which began in 2009.
