David Hassenzahl

Dean, College of Natural Sciences at California State University, Chico

David Hassenzahl is the current Dean of the College of Natural Sciences at California State University, Chico. Prior to their current position, Hassenzahl served as the Founding Dean of the Falk School of Sustainability at Chatham University from August 2010 to July 2014. David was also a Senior Fellow at the National Council for Science and the Environment from May 2009 to May 2015, where they were the co-PI on the Climate Adaptation and Mitigation E-Learning (CAMEL) project. Hassenzahl began their academic career as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Studies at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in August 2000. David was promoted to Associate Professor in 2006 and served as Department Chair from 2006 to 2009 before departing to become Founding Dean of the Falk School of Sustainability. In January 2019, Hassenzahl became Acting Chief Executive Officer of Chico State Enterprises and held that position until October 2019. David is also the Treasurer of the Association of Environmental Studies and Sciences and the author of a book published by Princeton University Press in January 1999.

David Hassenzahl has a PhD from the School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University. David also has a Bachelor of Arts in Paleontology and Environmental Science from the University of California, Berkeley. David Hassenzahl also has a Diploma from Piedmont High School and 6eme A Villepreux.

They are on a team with Patricia Stock - Dean, College of Agriculture, Blake Wentz - Dean, College of Engineering, Computer Science, & Construction Management, and Tracy Butts - Dean, College of Humanities & Fine Arts. David Hassenzahl reports to Debra Larson, Provost & VP, Academic Affairs.
