Andy MacKinnon

Director, Discovery Biology at Calithera Biosciences

Andy MacKinnon began their work experience as a Post baccalaureate scholar at Reed College in 2004. In 2005, they joined UCSF as a Ph.D. candidate and remained there until 2012. During this time, they also served as a Visiting Scientist at Cleave Biosciences Inc. in 2012. In the same year, they joined the California Institute of Technology as a Post Doctoral Researcher and played a key role in the development of biochemical and cellular assays. MacKinnon then moved on to Calithera Biosciences in 2012 and held several positions, including Scientist, Biochemistry, Associate Director of Biology, and Director, Discovery Biology. Andy'smost recent position is Vice President Biology at Para Therapeutics, starting in March 2023.

Andy MacKinnon began their education at Reed College, where they earned a B.A in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from 2000 to 2005. They then pursued further studies at the University of California, San Francisco, from 2005 to 2011, earning a Ph.D in Chemistry and Chemical Biology. Following their doctoral studies, MacKinnon attended Caltech as a Post Doctoral Scholar in Chemical Biology in 2012.
