Calvetti Ferguson is seeking a Manager to join our Tax Incentives practice.  This role will be based in Dallas or Houston. This person will be responsible for leading and managing Research & Development (R&D) tax credit studies.  The person filling this position will actively develop and coach other professional staff members, have primary responsibility for building and maintaining day-to-day client contact and strong relationships, and provide technical quality control (QC) for such studies while understanding and managing firm risk on services performed.

The candidate must be able to efficiently and effectively research technical tax matters relevant to the work being performed, stay abreast of current developments, as well as educate clients and internal team members.  The candidate will be charged with effectively scoping, managing, and delivering tax incentive studies punctuated by excellent client service.  They will need to be skilled in project management.  The candidate will also learn and have responsibility and involvement in the business development process by assisting with attracting and serving new clients, expanding services to existing clients, and helping recruit and retain additional team members.  Finally, the successful candidate will have opportunities to learn about and assist in all the high value tax incentive offerings the firm provides.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and participate in R&D tax credit studies
  • Collect, review, and organize client documentation
  • Interview client subject matter experts (SMEs)
  • Perform technical tax law research and apply it to client facts and circumstances
  • Mentor and train junior staff in all technical and process aspects of the work as well as project management
  • Travel up to 35%
  • Work with general tax personnel and assist in teaching them about relevant aspects of tax incentives projects

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience working in the R&D tax credit space
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience supervising multiple direct reports and reviewing their work product
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in accounting, finance, or other relevant course of study
  • CPA, JD, EA, or other specialized designation
  • General tax experience a plus
  • Cost Segregation experience a plus
