Tarek R. Besold

Tarek R. Besold is a Senior Research Scientist and Flagship Lead AI for Scientific Discovery at SonyAI, where Tarek is also the Head of the Barcelona Office since January 2023. Tarek serves as an Advisor for CertifAI and Calvin Risk, and holds the position of Editor in Chief for Neurosymbolic Artificial Intelligence at IOS Press. Tarek is the Founder of TRB Digital and a Guest Researcher with the Philosophy & Ethics Group at Eindhoven University of Technology. Tarek chaired the NIA Working Committee on Artificial Intelligence at DIN Deutsches Institut für Normung from 2018 to 2023 and was the Head of Strategic AI | Vice President at DEKRA DIGITAL from 2021 to 2022. Additionally, Tarek contributed to the Expert Council on Artificial Intelligence at Microsoft and served as Editor in Chief for Cognitive Systems Research at Elsevier. Tarek holds a PhD in Cognitive Science with a focus on Artificial Intelligence from Universität Osnabrück and has degrees in Logic and Mathematics/Computer Sciences from the University of Amsterdam and FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg, respectively.
