Deborah Lawrence

Chief Scientist at Calyx Global

Deborah Lawrence has a diverse work experience spanning different organizations and roles. Deborah currently serves as the Chief Scientist at Calyx Global since June 2022. Prior to this, Deborah had a significant tenure at the University of Virginia, where they held various positions such as Professor in the Environmental Sciences Department, Director of the Tropical Ecology Lab, Director of the Environmental Thought and Practice program, and Director of the Food Fuel and Forests Program.

Deborah also had involvement with USAID, International Programs of the US Forest Service, and US Department of State through their role on the Steering Committee of SilvaCarbon from 2010 to 2015. Deborah was also a part of the USAID as the Co-lead for the Climate Change Curriculum Team in the LEAF Program from 2012 to 2014.

Additionally, Deborah contributed their expertise as the Scientific Advisor in the Office of Global Environmental Change and Special Envoy for Climate Change at the U.S. Department of State from 2009 to 2010.

Their wide-ranging work experience showcases their expertise in environmental sciences and climate change, making their a valuable asset in their current role as Chief Scientist at Calyx Global.

Deborah Lawrence holds a Bachelor's degree from Harvard University. Deborah later earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Ecology from Duke University. Additionally, they obtained another Bachelor's degree from Harvard University.
